Currently all plants are sent bare rooted to NSW due to new regulations. Both our "In-House Laboratory" and "Commercial Tissue Culture/Flask Storage Facility” Have been endorsed By Tasmania Bio Security to send flasks into Tasmania.

Orchid - De-Flasking

De-flasking

First you will need a dedicated spot to grow your baby plants. Approx 80-90% shade and a location that is out of the weather is best so that you can control watering, etc. Under a shade house or veranda is fine.

You Will Need:

  • Potting mix (medium)
  • Pots
  • 1 x ice cream container
  • 1 x tap or 2nd ice cream container
  • Gloves
  • Paper towel

Our De-flasking Procedure:

1. Place some paper towel down near a tap.

2. Open flask and gently shake out baby plants into your hand.

3. Gently pull some plants out and put remaining plants on paper towel.

4. Gently put plants under running water and jiggle all the jelly/agar from the plants.

5. Pot in the appropriate orchid bark (we have planted these specific orchids (as seen in the pictures) in mini bark).

6. Finally, place plants in a shaded area and keep moist but NOT wet.
